David Moir was Born in Calgary on August 13th, 1961, and has lived his entire life in Calgary. He is one of Alberta’s most respected and accomplished sports media professionals, dedicating more than four decades to excellence in sports broadcasting. Born and raised in Calgary, Dave built a remarkable career behind the scenes, becoming one of Canada’s leading statistics and graphics coordinators in hockey and football television coverage.

Dave’s journey in sport began as an athlete. He excelled in football, basketball, hockey, and track throughout junior and senior high school, later playing five seasons (1979–1983) with the Calgary Colts Junior Football team. In 1981, he was named the Prairie Junior Football Conference’s Top Receiver and selected to the PJFC All-Star Team.

His professional media career began in the early 1980s when he joined the Calgary Flames organization and soon transitioned into television. By 1985 – 86, he was working as a statistician on Calgary Flames broadcasts on Global Television alongside legendary play-by-play announcer Ed Whalen. From there, Dave became the lead Stats/Graphics Coordinator for major networks including CBC Hockey Night in Canada, TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, CTV, and Global.

Over his distinguished career, Dave has worked:

  • 37 Grey Cup telecasts
  • 21 Stanley Cup Finals
  • 8 Olympic Games (1988–2014)
  • Multiple World Junior Championships, Memorial Cups, curling, tennis, and NBA broadcasts

Since 1990, Dave has worked continuously on TSN CFL and NHL broadcasts and has contributed to Rogers Sportsnet NHL coverage since 2014. He is widely respected by broadcasters and colleagues for his accuracy, preparation, and dedication to detail. His work has supported some of the most recognized voices in Canadian sports broadcasting, including Bob Cole, Chris Cuthbert, Jim Hughson, Don Wittman, Gord Miller, and many others.

Though often working behind the scenes, Dave’s statistics and graphics have shaped how fans experience Canada’s biggest sporting moments. His professionalism, longevity, and impact on national sports broadcasting make him a true builder in Alberta sport.

David Moir’s legacy is defined by dedication, precision, and an extraordinary contribution to Canadian sports media. His induction into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame recognizes more than 40 years of excellence in bringing the stories and statistics of sport to life for millions of viewers.
