W.P. Kinsella
Baseball Builder- Special Legends Class of 2025
Born in Edmonton and raised near Darwell, Alberta, W.P. Kinsella was home-schooled until grade five before his family moved to Edmonton. Kinsella became one of Canada’s most celebrated authors, writing nearly 40 short stories and three baseball-themed novels, including Shoeless Joe, which was adapted into the iconic film Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner. His other baseball novels include The Iowa Baseball Confederacy and Box Social.
In recognition of his lifelong contributions to baseball and literature, Kinsella was awarded the Jack Graney Award by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011 for a significant contribution to the game, and he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1993.
