Francis Wetterberg

Francis Wetterberg began his career as a fencer in 1932 and started teaching three years later at the Civil Service Sword Club, Edmonton Fencing Club, and the University of Alberta. In 1966, he coached the University Intercollegiate Team to numerous wins and titles until his retirement in 1973. As a tribute to this sport pioneer, the University of Alberta annually hosts a major Western Canadian Tournament bearing his name. In 1974, Francis Wetterberg was presented with the Canadian Fencing Association Lightwood Award.
