Lisa Miller

Lisa Miller established a respected broadcasting career through her dedication to promoting amateur and professional sport in Edmonton and northern Alberta.
Her interest in broadcasting began while attending the University of Alberta, where she covered Golden Bears and Pandas athletic competitions for the campus radio station. In 1978, she began her professional career with CFRN Television in Edmonton, receiving her first major assignment covering the Commonwealth Games hosted in the city.
Miller became widely recognized for her coverage of amateur sport and major international competitions held in Alberta. She reported on the 1983 World University Games in Edmonton and produced a two-hour documentary in 1988 highlighting Olympic athletes from northern Alberta.
In 1990, she co-produced the one-hour television special Looking Back on the Decade of Champions in Edmonton, documenting a period of exceptional athletic achievement within the region.
Throughout her career, Miller reported on many of Canada’s leading athletes, including four-time World Men’s Figure Skating Champion Kurt Browning and former World Curling Champion Pat Ryan. Known for her professionalism and strong community connection, she earned respect for her consistent support of grassroots and high-performance sport.
An Edmonton native, Miller also contributed to the development of sports journalism through leadership roles within the profession, serving as president of the Edmonton Sports Reporters Association for four years.
