James “Jim” Ryan

James “Jim” Ryan's baseball career progressed through midget, juvenile, junior, and senior leagues. In 1942, he was called up to play with the Winnipeg Reo Rods. He moved to Edmonton in 1949 and played with the Edmonton Motors Chevrolet Cubs which won the Big Four League. In 1949 and 1950, he was named the All-Star First Baseman. From 1950 to 1973, “Jim” Ryan combined his playing with managing. In 1955, he was the player/manager of the Edmonton Eskimos that won the Canadian Championship. Also, while playing at the 1955 Global World Series, he was selected as the All-Star First Baseman.
