Joe Carbury has spent some fifty years in radio sports broadcasting starting in 1948 as sports director in Medicine Hat and play-by-play announcer for the Junior Medicine Hat Tigers. His career moved on from there to become one of the most recognized sports voices in western Canada. Hockey was his first love having broadcast well over 1,000 games from semi-professional to Junior.
Play-by-play was his passion. He did play-by-play for the Edmonton Eskimos and the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. Joe also broadcast a number of boxing matches, including those of Willie de Witt. During his initial years, Joe broadcast curling and a number of amateur sports including high school football. Joe is a great supporter of the Calgary Booster Club and its' dedication to minor sports in Calgary.
"And they're off..." became Joe Carbury's signature as it rings from his eye in the sky perch at Calgary's Stampede Park for forty years. He has broadcast over twenty-five thousand thoroughbred races and his distinctive voice has thrilled people from around the world at the Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Chuckwagon races.

Joe Carbury retired in July 2008 after forty-five years of calling the Stampede chuckwagon races.

After 45 years of calling the chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede, Joe retired in 2008.
Joe Carbury passed away in Calgary on October 17, 2017, at the age of 91.
