Frank Morris

Frank Morris was one of the most successful and influential figures in Canadian Football League history, achieving remarkable success both as a player and as a football executive. Born September 14, 1923, in Toronto, Ontario, Morris developed into a standout lineman whose leadership and football intelligence helped shape one of the CFL’s greatest dynasties.
Morris began his professional football career with the Toronto Argonauts before being traded to the Edmonton Eskimos in 1950. Playing primarily as an offensive lineman, he quickly became a key contributor to Edmonton’s success during the 1950s. Known for his toughness, discipline, and strong leadership qualities, Morris served as co-captain of the Eskimos in both 1953 and 1954.
He helped lead Edmonton to its first Grey Cup championship in 1954, beginning one of the most dominant periods in Canadian football history. The Eskimos successfully defended their title with additional Grey Cup victories in 1955 and 1956, establishing themselves as a powerhouse franchise. Morris retired from active play following the 1958 season.
In 1973, Morris returned to the Edmonton organization as Director of Player Development, where his ability to evaluate talent and build strong teams once again proved invaluable. His contributions helped guide the Eskimos through another historic era of success, including seven Grey Cup championships between 1975 and 1987.
Across his combined career as a player and administrator, Frank Morris was associated with an unmatched thirteen Grey Cup championships, more than any other player or executive in Canadian Football League history.
He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1983, recognizing his outstanding contributions to Canadian football both on and off the field.
