Jodi Evans

Basketball Athlete - Inducted 2006

Jodi Evans was a vital member of the University of Calgary Dinos women’s basketball team for five seasons beginning in 1989.  She played on the Canadian National Women’s Basketball Team for nine seasons from 1988 to 1996, and competed internationally for Canada at the World University Games, World Championships, Pan American Games, and the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jodi was a complete basketball player and had the skills to shoot, rebound and handle the basketball.  She recorded nine triple-doubles (double figures in rebounds, assists, and points) in the Canadian Interuniversity sports competition.  In 1991, she led the Canada West Conference in points, assists, and rebounds - a feat that was never and has never been accomplished since that time.  Jodi was a Canada West All-star for four consecutive years, CIS All-Canadian three times, CIS Player of the Year in 1991, and, in her final two seasons of CIS competition was an All-star or Most Valuable Player in each tournament she participated.

During Jodi’s years with the University of Calgary Basketball Dinos Team, the Dinos were the Canadian Interuniversity Sport silver medallists in 1988 and 1990, bronze medallists in 1991, and CIS National Champions in 1989.  She was a starting member of the team that went 69 consecutive games without a loss from October 21, 1988, through March 10, 1990.  During her five years with the Dinos, the team had an overall record of 154 wins and 22 losses for a winning percentage of 87.5%.

Jodi Evans has received basketball awards at the Provincial, Conference, and National levels. She was on the Dean’s List all five years while at the University of Calgary and in 1991 was the recipient of the Rhodes Scholarship from Oxford, England.  Jodi was named City of Calgary Female Athlete of the Year and University of Calgary Female Athlete of the Year in 1991.  She was inducted into the University of Calgary Athletic Hall of Fame in April 2005.
